DayZ Wiki › Vehicles › ADA 4x4

A survivor with a backpack surveys Chernarus from a ridge.

Vehicle

ADA 4x4

The Niva. Four seats, 300 slots, and four-wheel drive. The only civilian car that goes where the roads do not.

Key facts

ADA 4x4 at a glance

The ADA 4x4 is modelled on the Lada Niva and is the most common car on Chernarus. It is slower than the Gunter 2 on tarmac and better than everything but the M1025 off it.

What it needs

Required parts

The standard four-part set, with its own wheel type.

Fluids: water in the radiator and petrol in the tank. Motor oil has not been needed since 1.0. Pulling the radiator out drains its water, so refill after every swap.

Optional

Body parts and extras

None of these are needed to drive, but doors and the hood stop bullets and keep passengers in during a crash, and two headlight bulbs are the only way to see at night. The ADA has three doors plus the rear door.

Step by step

Getting it running

  1. Find a ADA 4x4. They spawn at fixed points (village lots, garages, sheds, roadsides) and are the same every wipe. A shell with no wheels is usually unclaimed; one with wheels and doors has usually been claimed.
  2. Collect four wheels, a car battery, a spark plug and a car radiator. Industrial and work buildings spawn the small parts; wheels come off abandoned ADA 4x4 wrecks.
  3. Fit the parts. Wheels need a lug wrench in your hands; the battery, plug and radiator attach from the vehicle inventory or by holding the part and looking at the engine bay.
  4. Fill the radiator with water from a bottle, canteen, pot or jerrycan. A dry radiator overheats and kills the engine.
  5. Pour in petrol from a jerrycan filled at a petrol station pump.
  6. Get in and start the engine. If it will not turn over: flat battery, missing or ruined plug, or a ruined wheel.

On the road

How it drives

Goes anywhere

Fields, forest tracks and riverbanks are open to it. Roads are for people who want to be seen.

Do not redline uphill

Climbing at full throttle burns the plug and overheats the engine. Second gear, steady.

Rocks

Sharp terrain changes and boulders ruin wheels. Slow down over rough ground.

Short body

Easy to park in sheds and under camo nets; the boot door opens into a wall if you reverse in.

Best use

Cross-country moves between bases, hunting trips, and anyone who has lost a Gunter to a tree.

Where it spawns

Towns, cities and secluded villages on Chernarus. On Livonia also in hunting areas and in the south near Polana. Wrecked ADAs carry wheels and doors.

Quick answers

Questions people ask

What does the ADA 4x4 need to start?

Four ADA 4x4 wheels, a car battery, a spark plug and a car radiator filled with water, plus petrol from a jerrycan.

Can you lock the ADA 4x4?

No. Vanilla cars have no locks. Park it out of sight, under a camo net or inside a base.

Is the ADA 4x4 good off-road?

Yes. It is the best civilian car off the tarmac; only the M1025 does better. Keep the revs down on climbs.
