One base game, two paid expansions, one map that used to cost money and now does not, and a console edition with a different name. What each costs, what each unlocks, and which one you need for the map you want.

You can join a server on any map you own. Your character is shared across the official servers on your platform, so a Chernarus character can log into Sakhal if you own Frostline.
Base game
DayZ
The base game is the whole of DayZ on Chernarus and, since update 1.25 in May 2024, Livonia, which was paid DLC from December 2019 until then. Every update, from 1.0 to 1.30, is free: the motorbikes, the code lock and the rain barrels in 1.30 are in the base game even if you never buy an expansion. Frostline and Badlands
Frostline, 15 October 2024
Adds Sakhal, the frozen volcanic archipelago, with the cold mechanics, winter clothing, reindeer, sea fishing and the Burukan bunker. $26.99 on PC, Xbox and PlayStation. See the Sakhal guide.
Badlands, 15 October 2026
Adds Nasdara, the 267 km² desert, with heat, sandstorms, rebuildable ruins, Morse-code shelters and four new guns. $24.99 / €25 on PC, Xbox and PlayStation; on PS5 you buy the PS4 add-on. See the Nasdara guide and Badlands and 1.30.
Hot & Cool Bundle
Both expansions together, for players who own neither. Check the store for the current bundle price; it is cheaper than the two apart.
Livonia (retired DLC)
Sold from 3 December 2019 as DayZ Livonia, folded into the base game on 27 May 2024. If you bought it, you have nothing extra now, but you paid for four and a half years of a map that others waited for.

What to buy
Our advice
- New to DayZ: the base game only. Chernarus and Livonia will last you months, and both expansions are harder maps you will appreciate more later.
- You want the cold: Frostline. Sakhal is the better map for a group that likes the survival side.
- You want the new thing: Badlands. Nasdara is the biggest map, the newest, and where the players are this autumn.
- You want everything: the Hot & Cool Bundle, during a sale.
- Switch 2: the Cool Edition is the only option and includes Sakhal; Badlands has not been announced for it.

Is Livonia free in DayZ?
Yes. Livonia has been part of the base game since update 1.25 on 27 May 2024. It was paid DLC from December 2019 until then.
How much is DayZ Frostline?
$26.99 on PC, Xbox and PlayStation. It adds the Sakhal map. It is included in the Switch 2 Cool Edition.
How much is DayZ Badlands?
$24.99 or €25 on PC, Xbox and PlayStation. It adds the Nasdara map. On PS5 you buy the PS4 add-on.
What is DayZ Cool Edition?
The Nintendo Switch 2 release of DayZ from 20 August 2026: the base game with Chernarus and Livonia plus the Frostline expansion and Sakhal.
Do I need DLC to play DayZ 1.30?
No. Update 1.30 is free for everyone. Badlands is only needed for the Nasdara map.
Is DayZ crossplay?
No. PC, Xbox and PlayStation players each have their own servers.
