DayZ Halloween 2026
Bohemia’s seasonal Halloween event is live on official servers until 6 November 2026. Here is what is in it, which maps have it, what we have only seen reported, and how to get into a castle and back out with the loot.

Bohemia announced the event on the DayZ channels on 26 October 2026: spooky castles, seasonal loot and infected on Chernarus, Sakhal and Livonia across Steam, Xbox and PlayStation, running until 6 November. Community servers choose for themselves whether to run it.

What is in it, as reported
Castles in fog
The castles on each map (Devil’s Castle, Zub and the others on Chernarus; the castle ruins on Livonia and Sakhal) are covered in an eerie fog and are where the event infected and loot gather.
Event infected
Mummy, pumpkin-head and witch infected. Treat them like any other infected: a melee weapon, a doorway, one at a time. See how to kill infected.
Decaying survivors
Player characters take on a decaying look for the length of the event. Cosmetic only, as far as anyone has reported.
Seasonal items
Leaf wreaths, witch hats, witch hoods, pumpkin helmets and other seasonal cosmetics. The witch hood is reported to combine with a chainmail coif into an armoured hood that protects against melee hits at a noticeable weight cost.
Nasdara misses out
Reports say the Badlands map has none of the Halloween infected or loot. Bohemia has said event content is spread differently across the maps, and has not said why Nasdara is left out.
Cold zones
In 2023 the spooky zones were noticeably colder and Bohemia recommended warm clothing. Nobody has confirmed the same for 2026 yet; dress warm at the castles anyway.

How to loot a castle and leave
Our advice, not Bohemia’s. A Halloween castle is a loot pile on a hill with a single approach, which is also what a trap looks like.
- Go in daylight. The fog already cuts your view; night cuts it to nothing.
- Watch from the treeline first. Other players are heading to the same hill.
- Take a melee weapon for the infected and keep the gun for people. Shooting a mummy tells the whole hill you are there. Best melee weapons has the rankings.
- Dress warm and dry. If the zones are cold again this year, a fog-bound castle in wet clothes is hypothermia. See warm and cool.
- Bag the cosmetics and go. Event loot only exists until 6 November; it is not worth dying for twice.

Past Halloweens
How the event has grown
Bohemia has run Halloween on official servers in several years. The 2023 event, from 17 October to 7 November, brought cold, blue-tinted spooky zones, pumpkin infected, mummies in cemeteries, ghostly apparitions and sounds, and themed cosmetics. Earlier years added demonic goats with glowing eyes. The 2026 event moves the action to castles and adds witches. All of DayZ’s seasonal events, including Christmas and the Walpurgis bonfires, are on seasonal events.
