Loot routes

Best loot, map by map

The military bases, airfields, toxic zones and bunkers worth the walk on every official map, what you will find there, and what will try to kill you on the way.

How loot works

How DayZ loot works

Every item has usage tags (Military, Police, Hunting, Industrial, Medic, Town, Village, Farm) and many have a tier: tier 1 near the coast and spawn areas, tier 4 deep inland. A building only spawns items that match its tags, and the best guns only spawn in high-tier military buildings, toxic zones, crashes and events. The central economy refills the map over time, so a base that was looted an hour ago may have restocked.

  • Military: assault rifles, plate carriers, helmets, ammo, NV.
  • Police: pistols, shotguns, SMGs, stab vests, handcuffs.
  • Hunting: bolt-action rifles, scopes, hunting clothing and backpacks.
  • Medical: saline, blood kits, morphine, epinephrine, antibiotics.
  • Industrial: tools, nails, wire, vehicle parts, fuel.

Sakhal punishes long loot runs: cold and wet kill faster than players. Carry dry clothes and a fire kit before heading inland. See survival.

Nasdara

Nasdara (Badlands)

Nasdara's military sites carry the SCR-16, desert gear and tanker helmets, its oil fields and refineries carry fuel and parts, and the underground shelters found by following Morse broadcasts carry the best loot. The official gazetteer is not out yet, so place names are on the Nasdara guide, marked unverified.

Dynamic events

Heli crashes, convoys and toxic zones

Helicopter crashes

About three active at a time, each lasting around 35 minutes before it moves. Look for smoke. High-tier rifles like the LAR, DMR and AUR, plus gas-burned infected.

Military convoys

Wrecked trucks on roads with crates of military gear and ammo. Since 1.29, Nasdara convoys appear on Chernarus and Livonia too.

Dynamic toxic zones

A gas strike hits a spot, about 120 m across, for roughly 15 minutes. Wait it out with NBC gear and loot the crates when the gas lifts. PO-X vials spawn here.

Frozen scientist (Sakhal)

A frozen body with a scientific briefcase, the source of the glow plug for the Burukan bunker.

A first route

A sensible first loot route

  1. Coast town for food, a knife, a bag and a canteen.
  2. Police station or fire station for a pistol or shotgun, a helmet and a vest.
  3. Hunting stands and deer stands for a bolt-action rifle and a scope.
  4. Mid-tier military (Balota, Myshkino, Zelenogorsk) for ammo and a military bag.
  5. Only then head for Tisy, NWAF, toxic zones or bunkers, with food, water, bandages and a plan to leave.

Quick answers

Questions people ask

Where is the best loot in DayZ Chernarus?

Tisy military base and NWAF have the best military loot, followed by Kamensk and Veresnik. Static toxic zones like Pavlovo and Rify have high-tier loot but need NBC gear.

How do you open the Livonia bunker?

The Dambog bunker door needs a punched card, which spawns in high-tier military loot and events.

How do you open the Sakhal bunker?

The Burukan bunker needs a glow plug, which you take from the scientific briefcase found at frozen scientist events.

How long do heli crashes last in DayZ?

Around 35 minutes before the event moves. About three are active at once, marked by smoke.

How long does a dynamic toxic zone last?

About 15 minutes of gas over a roughly 120 m radius, then the crates can be looted safely.
