Badlands and 1.30, explained
What you get if you buy Badlands, what everyone gets for free, and every change in update 1.30 and its first patch that matters when you play.
Short version
The short version
- Badlands is DayZ's second paid expansion, after Frostline. It adds the desert map Nasdara.
- Released 15 October 2026 on PC, Xbox and PlayStation (on PS5 you buy the PS4 add-on, which plays on PS5).
- Price $24.99 / €25, with 10% off until 29 October. The Hot & Cool Bundle pairs it with Frostline.
- Update 1.30, released the same day, is free and changes every map.
- Official servers were wiped for 1.30. Patch 1 followed on 21 October.
- Not on Switch 2 yet. The Switch 2 Cool Edition (August 2026) includes Frostline but not Badlands.

You can join a Nasdara server only if you own Badlands. Chernarus, Livonia and (with Frostline) Sakhal servers all run 1.30 regardless.
What changed
Update 1.30, the changes that matter
Added
- Jana 50, a light moped, and the Bitrak 682, a faster enduro bike, on every map. Fuel and a spark plug get them going; there is no battery. See the Jana 50 and Bitrak 682 pages.
- Redrawn inventory icons and new weapon colour variants.
Changed
- Rain barrels collect water three times faster. An open barrel at your base is now a real water source.
- cfgGameplay.json is on by default for servers, so community servers can tweak stamina, base building and more without extra setup. See server hosting.
- New navmesh format, which changes how AI (infected and animals) path through buildings. Expect infected to follow you indoors more reliably.

- Exploit fixes and general bug fixes across all maps.
Patch 1 (21 October)
- Stability and bug fixes after the launch week. PC moved to 1.30.164200 and consoles to 1.87.

If a server says your version does not match, restart the game to pull the latest patch. On PC, Steam sometimes needs a restart before it notices.
The wipe
Did 1.30 wipe servers?
Yes, official servers were wiped for 1.30: characters and bases started fresh. Community servers decide for themselves; many wiped too, because the new navmesh and map files made it the natural moment. Check your server's Discord or message of the day.
Our take
Should you buy Badlands?
Our opinion: yes, if you like the slow, survival half of DayZ. Water, heat and rebuilding make the first hours feel new in a way a new town layout would not. If you mainly play for PvP on Chernarus, the free 1.30 bikes and fixes already reach you, and you can wait for a sale.
