Four official maps, about a hundred and fifty named places. Each map has its own page listing every location with its type, where it is and what is there. For routes and survival read the map guides; for rankings read best loot by map.

Kinds of place
What each type means
- City and town: civilian, medical and police loot; the hospitals and police stations are the targets.
- Village: wells, food, clothing and tools; most routes pass through several.
- Military base, airfield and tents: rifles, ammunition, vests and helmets, ranked by tier. See how loot spawns.
- Gas zone: a permanent contaminated site with top-tier loot; NBC suit, mask and filter required. See gas zones.
- Bunker: an underground site opened with a key item from an event.
- Castle, radio tower, landmark: navigation points and vantage, little loot.

How many places are there in DayZ?
About 150 named locations across the four official maps: roughly 60 on Chernarus, 30 on Livonia, 20 on Sakhal and under 20 confirmed so far on Nasdara.
Which DayZ map is the biggest?
Nasdara at 267 square kilometres, then Chernarus at about 225, Livonia at about 163 and Sakhal at 83 to 105.
Where is the best loot in DayZ?
Tier 4 military sites: the North-West Airfield and Tisy on Chernarus, Tarnow and the gas zones on Livonia, Burukan and the outer islands on Sakhal, Zulfiqar and the research cluster on Nasdara.
