The Humvee. Four seats, an automatic gearbox, small-arms resistance and the best off-road ability in the game. There are at most three on a server.

The M1025 is the military 4x4. It is the rarest vehicle in DayZ, with a cap of three per official server, and the only one whose body shrugs off most small-calibre fire. The windows do not.

Fluids: petrol from a jerrycan only. The trucks have no radiator slot; the "Radiator (Truck)" item exists in the files but is not implemented.

Doors make the armour useful; without them the cab is as open as a Gunter. Two headlight bulbs for night, and a spare wheel on the back.

Step by step
Getting it running
- Find one. Military bases and some industrial sites only, and someone has usually been there first.
- Bring four M1025 wheels, a truck battery and a glow plug.
- Fit wheels with a lug wrench; battery and plug go in under the fixed hood.
- Fuel from a jerrycan. 115 litres is nearly six cans; a couple is enough to move.
- Start. The gearbox is automatic, so just drive.
On the road
How it drives
Off-road king
Fields, forest, riverbeds and hills that stop every car. Still not a boat.
Automatic
No shifting. Throttle and steer; it manages the gears itself.
Armour, not immunity
Doors and body stop pistol and most rifle rounds. Windows do not, and neither do wheels.
Heavy
Long braking distances. Crashes at speed still kill the people inside.
Target
Everyone on the server wants it. Park it inside a base or do not park it.
Best use
Squad transport through contested country, and the only car worth building a garage for.
